Welcome to our new apartment!
As I’m writing this we are all moved in to our apartment…. but it wasn’t all fun and games lol. It was a PROCESS. Let me take you through the timeline of events…
Since Cameron and I lived in 2 different states, we knew we were going to have to make 2 separate trips to move all of our stuff in. So, our plan was to move HIS stuff from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham on one weekend, and MY stuff from Atlanta to Birmingham on another weekend. We did end up sticking to this plan, but it seemed wayyy more drawn out than we first anticipated.
Friday, July 23rd: Day of the Uhaul pickup (to transport Cameron’s belongings from Tuscaloosa to BHAM)
We were supposed to pick up the Uhaul at 4pm at a place that was about 20 minutes from Cameron’s house in Tuscaloosa. Easy enough right?! Wrong!! At 1:30pm that same day, Cameron got a text from Uhaul saying “Something with your order has changed. Please call xxxx.” As he called Uhaul we were crossing our fingers that it wasn’t anything too serious, but low and behold, they told him that they did not have a truck for us and that there were no trucks available within 100 miles of us. You can imagine how we reacted given that our reservation for the Uhaul was GUARANTEED when we booked it 3 weeks ago. After speaking to 4 different people at Uhaul, they finally found a truck available in Vernon, AL. They said that they would provide us the extra miles for free and that this particular store closed at 3pm that day. We quickly mapped to the store on our phone, and realized that Vernon, AL was an hour and a half away! WHAT! Remember.. the current time was 1:30pm, the store closes at 3pm, and we are 1.5 hours away! We had no other choice so we dropped everything right then and there and got in the car to go pick up the Uhaul (thank god Cameron had a half day of work). After a 3 hour round trip, we got back home and started packing the Uhaul. Just when you think it can’t get much worse… it does. Out of nowhere it starts TORRENTIAL down-pouring on all of our stuff (cardboard boxes do not hold up well in rain UGH)! Thanks Alabama for your wonderfully inconsistent weather!! So, we decide to take a break, get out of the rain, and drive to dinner. It was raining SO BAD that we had to turn around 4 different times because the roads were flooded and cars were stalling out. Eventually we made it to dinner and then finished packing the truck. Needless to say it was one heck of a day! At least we can look back and laugh about it now.
Saturday, July 24th: Move-in day!
Thankfully, this day went a whole lot smoother!! We left mid-day, drove to Birmingham, unpacked his stuff, and had dinner with Cameron’s family (that had driven in from ATL to help with the move). As you can imagine, it was a tiring day… and you A L W A Y S have more stuff than you anticipate!
On Monday, July 25th I drove back to ATL to start packing up my stuff, while Cameron stayed in BHAM to work. I was flying to NY on Thursday, July 29th, for my cousin’s baby shower, so the plan was to move my stuff in the next weekend on Saturday, August 7th. The couch for the new apartment was in ATL with my stuff, so between July 25th and Aug 6th, all Cameron had in the living room was 1 chair and a TV hahah. I think it was a long 2 weeks for him… 🤣
I flew back to ATL from NY on Sunday, Aug 1st, and {unrelated to the move} drove back to Birmingham the next day. My step sister was scheduled to tour the University of Alabama on Aug 4th, so Cam & I drove to Tuscaloosa on Aug 3rd to show her around to all of our favorite spots! Are you exhausted reading this yet??
The night of Thursday, Aug 5th we drove back to ATL so that Cameron could work from home the first part of the day on Friday and we could use the rest of the day to pick up the Uhaul and pack it. The Uhaul situation went according to plan this time WOO!
Saturday, Aug 7th: Move-in day #2 (ATL to BHAM)
Cameron drove the Uhaul, while Karina and I drove in my car from ATL to BHAM. We finally got a couch in our apartment, and when I say we were excited, I mean we were ready to never move anything again in our entire life!! But it was reallyyyyy nice to have a couch now too 🙂 My family took us to dinner that night, and we ate our weight in italian food!! I can never turn down bread and pasta!
I cannot believe how crazy these 2 weeks were but I’m glad they are over now!! We were exhausted by the end of it, but we are so so glad to be all moved in. To this day we are still finding small things that we’ve forgotten to buy since the move, but the apartment is coming along well!
